SHOULD TORRENTS BE MADE LEGAL?

A vast majority of the public understands that piracy is a violation of intellectual property rights laws and is illegal. Some question whether it is a legitimate reason to stop piracy, while others do not. Currently, torrent clients, such as uTorrent are used to download immense amount of data on the web, most of which is illegal.
Theoretically, as long as it is copyrighted and you don’t own it, then downloading it (for free) via torrent is illegal. To put it bluntly, if you’re downloading a free Linux distribution through your torrent client, it is perfectly legal and you need not worry. But if you’re getting John Lennon’s “Imagine” from The Pirate Bay, you are doing something that in all likelihood is not legal!
And, if you ask me, I would say torrent should not be made legal in any way because it is a threat to all profit making organizations and if you can digest it, there is no need of making it as well! Because torrents is not synonymous to piracy! That being said, I don’t support that torrents in any way should be banned
Like http, which browsers use to communicate with websites, torrent is also a protocol, and it still has a lot of value to people who don’t pirate.
Like, to a surprise, Facebook and Twitter both uses BitTorrent internally to move files around which is proved! Even the Internet Archive recommends people use BitTorrent to download its content, as it’s the fastest method and allows the non-profit organization to save on bandwidth costs.
Heck, even the government uses it!!
In 2010, the UK gov released several large data sets showing how public money was being sent. To make this available, they offered them via BitTorrent. Even NASA has also used BitTorrent to make a 2.9GB picture of the earth available :D
And we all know torrent is the best way to distribute any large chunk of data as fast as possible, saving money on bandwidth. Any large pile of data that is free for anyone to access can be distributed publicly with torrents!
So when so many things can be done legally with torrents, what’s the reason of making it legal and harming the profits of all commercial organization. It’s time we should start spending some bucks to get what we want, because illegality is becoming too mainstream!:)
