Phonebloks- Explained!

We live in a throwaway society, where
products often aren't made to last
long, and generally aren't easily
fixable. Smartphones are a case in
point, with the average handset being
replaced by its owner within two
years. And when that happens, the
whole thing is trashed intact and
replaced with another, slightly better,
model. With the Phonebloks concept,
Dave Hakkens plans to change this
short-term way of thinking about
gadgets.
Dutch designer Hakkens has proposed
the Phonebloks concept, which is
designed to run counter to the current
business model from smartphone
manufacturers such as Apple and
Samsung. Currently, the average
consumer buys a phone, and uses it
until it either breaks or is supplanted
by a newer model. Then, they either
sell it, trade it in, or trash it in favor of
buying a brand new handset.
Phonebloks tears this notion apart
with a simple alternative.
Phonebloks is (or is at least imagined
to be) a smartphone made up of
modular elements. So, your
Phonebloks handset would comprise a
display panel of your choosing, a
battery pack of your choosing, a
memory module of your choosing, and
other components selected by you.
These would be called bloks, and they
would be connected to a universal
base which ties all of the separate
components together. Each blok would
be attached to the base via pins, with
two screws holding everything in
place.
This all means that if one individual
component breaks it can be replaced
without the need to throw away the
whole unit and start again from
scratch. Likewise, if you want to
upgrade an individual component –
your camera or your RAM, for example
– then you simply buy the relevant
blok and embed it in your handset. To
achieve this, Hakkens proposes the
Blokstore, a kind of app store for
hardware on which you can buy and
sell bloks made by your favorite
brand.
The overriding factor behind
Phonebloks is electronic waste, which
is a rapidly growing problem. While
Phonebloks wouldn't solve the issue
outright (as people would still be
disposing of some components) it
would certainly help ease the
situation. A similar proposal for a
recyclable laptop was made a few
years ago, but people seem to be
resistant to change – or perhaps
manufacturers are responsible for the
lack of enthusiasm.
Phonebloks is just a concept at
present, but it's one that has been met
with considerable interest from
consumers around the world. Hakkens
is currently asking people to support
the notion of Phonebloks with a
campaign on Thunderclap, and the
short video embedded below details
the effort.
Unfortunately, consumer demand will
not be enough to make Phonebloks a
reality, with hardware partners an
absolute necessity if this is ever going
to move from the drawing board to the
real world. Still, it's a great idea that
deserves some attention.

Internet Cloud-Explained!

"The cloud" is one of those trendy tech
terms a lot of people use but can't
clearly define. What is the cloud?
When do you encounter it? How can it
benefit your business?
If you use any kind of social media or
online data drive, you're already using
the cloud; you just may not realize it.

In this beginner's guide , we break
down the who, what, where and why of
one of tech's most abstract terms.
What is the cloud
exactly?
The first thing you should understand
about the cloud is that it is not a
physical thing. The cloud is a network
of servers, and each server has a
different function. Some servers use
computing power to run applications
or "deliver a service."
For example, Adobe recently moved
its creative services to the cloud. You
can no longer buy the Creative Suite
(Photoshop , InDesign , etc.) in a box
set. Instead, you must pay a monthly
subscription fee to use each individual
service. That's why it's now called the
"Adobe Creative Cloud" instead.
Other servers in the network are
responsible for storing data.
For example, when you take a picture
on your smartphone, it is stored on
your phone's internal memory drive.
However, when you upload the photos
to Instagram, you are uploading it to
the cloud.

So remember: "The Cloud" is a
network of servers. Some servers
provide an online service, like Adobe
Creative Cloud, and others allow you
to store and access data, like
Instagram or Dropbox.
Chances are, you encounter the cloud
daily. From Google Drive to SkyDrive
to iCloud to Evernote , any time you
store information without using up
your phone's internal data, you're
storing information on the cloud.
What are the benefits to
working in the cloud?
The business decision to "move to the
cloud" is often financially motivated.
Companies used to have to buy their
own hardware equipment, the value of
which depreciated over time. But now
with the cloud, companies only have
to pay for what they use. This model
makes it easy to quickly scale use up
or down.
That's why the cloud is such a big
deal; it doesn't just let you upload that
delicious looking #foodporn (although
that is important), but it also helps
companies save thousands of dollars
a year.

In an article on the benefits of cloud
computing, SalesForce wrote, "Where
in the past, people would run
applications or programs from
software downloaded on a physical
computer or server in their building,
cloud computing allows people
access the same kinds of applications
through the Internet."
Working on the cloud allows your
company to be nimble, efficient and
cost-effective. If your company
quickly needs access to more
resources, it can scale quickly in the
cloud. Conversely, if it needs to
downscale or reduce resources, it can
do so just as easily. Because of this
scalability, the cloud's elasticity is
often compared to that of a rubber
band.
A brief history of the
cloud
The history of the cloud dates back as
far as the 1950s . Back then, a
mainframe (read: computer) was so
big it took up an entire room. Because
mainframes were so expensive,
organizations couldn't afford to
purchase a new one for each user. In
response, they developed "time
sharing" methods, which let multiple
users share access to data and CPU
time. Today, this idea of "time
sharing" is the premise of cloud
computing.
The next major event in cloud
computing history occurred in 1969,
when J.C.R. Licklider developed
ARPANET (Advanced Research
Projects Agency Network) in hopes
that some day everyone would be able
to access data and programs from any
location.
Despite these early advances, the
Internet didn't feature enough
bandwidth to make the cloud available
to the masses until the '90s.
Professor Ramnath Chellappa was the
first to use the term "cloud computing"
in 1997, and in 1999, Salesforce
became the first site to deliver
applications and software over the
Internet.
Amazon officially launched its own
cloud computing platform called
Amazon Web Services (AWS ) in 2006.
AWS provides online services to
websites or client-side applications.
Chances are, you come in contact with
AWS daily. Social media sites like
Instagram and Pinterest use AWS to
host traffic and data. In fact, AWS
powers hundreds of thousands of
startups and larger companies in over
190 countries worldwide.
How big is the cloud?
No one knows exactly how much
space can be provided by cloud-based
services like Google, Amazon or
Facebook; however, according to this
infographic, the cloud can store about
1 Exabyte.
But how big is an Exabyte?
An Exabyte of memory can hold the
same amount of data as 4.2 million
Macbook Pro hard drives. That's a lot
of storage.
How secure is the cloud?
The cloud is great for storing non-
sensitive information, like to-do lists
on platforms like Evernote . But
unsurprisingly, the idea of storing
personal information somewhere "up
in the cloud" makes many people
wary.
Some companies, like Google, are
responding to this worry accordingly.
Google recently announced it would
automatically encrypt data for paid
cloud storage service users.

Unlock your Iphone

Ever wondered why iPhone from the US needs to be unlocked? In the US all iPhones are locked to a carrier,AT&T or Verizon. AT&T allows you to unlock your phone after two years when the contract gets over or if you pay an early termination fee. Otherwise if you want to switch carriers you have to hack into your phone to unlock it. Even this is not simple because on the US,AT&T & T-Mobile use GSM and Verizon uses CDMA. So if your iPhone is only equipped to work on one you cant take it to the other.
The iPhones that are released in India are factory unlocked so users can switch wireless carriers at will without hacking or worrying that future Apple software updates will reduce their iPhones to a brick.

How to fix memory card formatting problems

Some times our Memory Cards
stop working after we have
formatted them from our Computer
and not from mobile. If you read
user manual of your Mobile you
will find a warning message asking
you not to format phone memory
of your mobile and memory card
from computer, you should use
mobile.
Memory Card use FAT16 (FAT) file
system and through your computer
you can format it into only FAT32
and NTFS file system and if you
format it with any of these two file
system then your memory card will
stop working in your mobile
phone.

Megabytes, Gigabytes, Terabytes...

These terms are usually used in
the world of computing to describe
disk space, or data storage space,
and system memory. For instance,
just a few years ago we were
describing hard drive space using
the term Megabytes. Today,
Gigabytes is the most common
term being used to describe the
size of a hard drive. In the not so
distant future, Terabyte will be a
common term. But what are they?
This is where it gets quite
confusing because there are at
least three accepted definitions of
each term.

Everything about RAM-Explained!

The diffference
SD, DDR, DDR2 and DDR3 are all
different types of RAM (Random
Access Memory). RAM is a kind of
computer memory that temporarily
stores information, improving your
systems performance. Or in other
words RAM simply holds data for
the processor. The processor also
has its own memory known as the
L2 cache, the cache lies between
the processor and the RAM. The
processor sends and retrieves data
from this cache, when this cache
overflows data is sent to the RAM.
There are mainly four types of
RAM; SD, DDR, DDR2 and DDR3.
They differ in the way they operate
and mainly in their operation
speeds. All RAM's used in
computers today have a
synchronous interface meaning
they wait for a clock signal before
it can respond to clock signals.
